Issues for Delaware

Picture
Education:

I want Delaware to have the best public education system in the Nation.  Improving the educational system in our state is my number one concern.  I will work with educators to establish a high quality standardized state wide curriculum that will level the playing field between districts in this state.  Our children are our future and they deserve better from us then they are receiving now.

Taxation:

We have an economy that is based on little more then people spending money. What makes that worse is that people are typically spending borrowed money. So when you combine personal debt with national debt we are in a hopeless situation, unless we change the way we do business.  I will oppose any legislation that will increase the tax burden on citizens in our state.  Increasing taxes will hinder our State from making a full economic recovery.  I believe that the people know far better how to spend their money than government agencies.  I have spoken with numerous State employees who have told me about the massive waste and frivolous spending in their departments.  One woman told me that her department had money left over in their budget so they had to spend it or it would be taken back and they would get a reduced budget for the following year.  She then told me that they just spent it on anything they could find, like $500 chairs for all the employees, that weren’t needed.  This type of waste needs to be policed and put to a stop.  All individual department spending needs to be monitored and approved by an independent panel.

State Rights:

We need to put legislation on the books that will help insulate the state of Delaware from abuses of the Federal Government.  We need to protect our State rights that are afforded us by our State Constitution.  Delaware is one of 18 states that pay more to the Federal government in taxes then it receives back in Federal funds.  For every dollar the people of Delaware pay in taxes, we receive 79 cents back in Federal funds.  We need to look at laws passed by the Federal Government and determine their direct effect on us.  Take the Health Care bill for example.  Our elected officials have sold us out as a Nation by passing legislation that we cannot afford.  We as a State should join others and challenge the constitutionality of this law and protect the people of Delaware from footing the bill for this unnecessary legislation.  HB 353 was introduced to help accomplish some of this by allowing the people of Delaware to be able to choose their healthcare without a threat of penalty from the Federal Government.  This bill was killed in committee by the Democratic majority in defiance of the will of the people.  There are other better ways to fix the healthcare system, through true reform not a government take over.  I will outline a plan to reform the healthcare system in this State that will reduce costs and make Delaware a shining example for the rest of the Nation.

Immigration:

Delaware needs to put its own illegal immigration law on the books.  I have spoken with many people who have voiced their concerns about the growing number of illegal immigrants in the State working in the farm and chicken industries.  I will diligently work with the people to come up with appropriate legislation to meet your concerns.

Law Enforcement & Punishment:

I will work with our States law enforcement agencies to reform the system that does everything to protect the rights of criminals while ignoring the rights of law-abiding citizens.  The main focus of this is protecting our children from child predators.  We also need to focus on reducing costs within our correction system.  We need to decrease the comforts afforded in our prisons and return them to a more basic existence.

The Second Amendment:

I will defend your second amendment rights and oppose any legislation that attempts to diminish those rights.  Delaware’s law abiding citizens have the right to defend their families, homes and property from those who wish to do them harm.  Currently in Delaware your first duty when confronted is to withdraw.  This limits your ability to defend yourself and gives the advantage to those who seek to break the law and do you harm.  With the ever increasing number of violent crimes being committed in our state we need to work to improve the safety of our citizens.  We need to change the laws in Delaware so that when you are confronted and threatened you have the right to meet force with force, without any threat of prosecution for defending one’s self or property.
